FRESH ONIONS FROM TASMANIA, AUSTRALIA

We are Wynyon, Onion specialists based in Tasmania, Australia.

We manage the production of the finest quality onions from seed selection through to shipping. Our onions are available for export from January through to August. Our onions are world renowned for having excellent shelf life, a strong, rich flavour and shiny, attractive skins. We have brown, red and white onions available as well as shallots.

Wynyon comes from Wynyard Onions. Our base is the fertile agricultural district of Table Cape, near Wynyard, Tasmania. Onions are sown from May to September, grown and harvested with care and great pride, and sold in Australia from February to November and overseas in Europe and Asia from March to August.

VARIETIES

Brown onion varieties

Early Creamgold (EPLK) & Creamgold (PLK)

These open pollinated varieties have been grown in Tasmania for over 60 years and have been the mainstay of onion exports for a long time. Initially golden yellow to light brown, the skin colour will become browner with more time in storage. Hard bulb with pungent flavour. Still the very best keeping variety we grow, will store well in ambient storage from February to October. Early Creamgold is available from late January and Creamgold is available from early March.

Rhinestone

A hybrid variety from Hazera seeds, has an exceptionally uniform global bulb shape with light brown skins and very good storage life. Hard bulb with pungent flavour. Available from late February.

Trekker

A new hybrid variety from Takii seeds. It has an exceptionally uniform global bulb shape, with a high percentage of single centres. It has good skins with a deep orange-brown colour. Available from early March to late June.

Plutonus

A hybrid variety from Enza Zaden seeds, a long keeping variety with strong brown skins. Hard bulb with pungent flavour. Is currently the mainstay of our spring plantings. Available from early March.

An early red onion variety from Tasman Seeds with excellent storage life and strong skins. Currently leading in its class as an export variety. Can be multi-centred. Available from mid-February

Rubillion
